Journey to Healthy Living – Part 3 – 18 days Vegetable Juice Fast Journey

As some of you have read earlier, I am with my mum in Bangkok (yes, during the martial law!) for alternative cancer treatments that do not use the conventional chemotherapy and radiation. Juice fast is one of the elements in total program to help her recovery. My mum’s cancer markers have dropped from 16.5 on 29th March to 6.6 on 19th May. <2.5 would mean her markers are in normal, health range. YAY! Praise God for blessing us with this miracle for a stage 4 cancer patient 🙂 Not just her cancer is going into remission, my mum has been on high blood pressure medicine (Atenolol 50 mg, amLodipine 2.5mg) for 20 years, and on the raw diet, she is totally off her medication in under 2 months. She is checking her BP everyday now and it has stayed at 110/70 – 120/80. Needless to say, I have become a big convert to alternative ways of reversing cancer*, including Colonics, ElectroLymphatic Therapy (ELT) and today, I want to share my 18 days juice fast journey. Unlike Joe Cross …

Journey to Healthy Living – Part 2 – Colon Hydrotherapy

I have been embarking on a health living journey, with my mum who is battling Stage 4 Colon Cancer. My first entry spoke about Electro Lymphatic Therapy (ELT) and today, I wanted to share my Colon HydroTherapy, more commonly known as colonics, experience. Did you know that 70% of our immune system comes from the gut and gastrointestinal tract? Well, neither did I till now. We require a healthy balance of good bacteria and ZERO toxins/parasites in our gastrointestinal (GI) tract to have a healthy functioning immune system? The need for Colon HydroTherapy (Colonics) roots from the belief that our diet has deviated so much from what our pre-historic ancestors used to eat (high fibre, nuts, raw vegetables), that our gastrointestinal tract cannot fully digest all the food we now eat, especially animal proteins. “The Hunzakuts are estimated to live, on average, to about 115 years old…[Their] diet consists of drinking glacier water, raw…and eat leafy green or root vegetables.” – www.organiclives.org As such, a lot of remnant food is stuck in the large intestine and rectum, causing …

Journey to Healthy Living – Part 1 – Electro Lymphatic Therapy

As some of you may know, my mum was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. The journey since Feb 21 2014, the day of diagnosis, is a story for another time. Long story short, the Singapore oncologists gave her 6 months to live without treatment, 2-3 years with indefinite chemotherapy. Ironically, even though they only gave my mum 6 months to live without treatment, they also said we could go for 1-2 months holiday before starting conventional chemotherapy treatment. After a lot of prayers and consideration, we decided to use the 1-2 months “holiday” to bring her overseas for some alternative natural treatments. It has been only 1 week since the natural treatments started, but she already feels more energetic after a lot of detox-ing. In fact, her week 1 CEA cancer markers after 5 days of treatment dropped from 16.5 to 13.9! Praise God! 2 of the therapies my mum will be undergoing for detox are Electro-Lymphatic Therapy and Colon HydroTherapy (Colonics), which I decided to give a try myself on my own …

Lunch Treat for 21 Special Teenagers from Mountbatten Vocational School @ French Ladle

Those who have been following EatPrayFlying would know one of our purposes is to grow to a decent readership to help with social causes, related to children, learning and old folks. Hence, I am so glad that I manage to marry my full time work with EatPrayFlying, where my team at work helped to organize a team building day last Friday. We brought 21 special teenagers and 2 teachers from Mountbatten Vocational School, affiliate of the Singapore School for the Deaf, to French Ladle, and treated them to a sumptuous buffet lunch. Through our team building day, I learnt that Mountbatten Vocational School (formerly known as Vocational School for the Handicapped) was established in 1975 to train our deaf youths to be skilled workers. Due to the needs of the community, it opened up to students with various learning disabilities. Currently MVS is an Approved Training Centre to offer the ITE Certificate in Food Preparation and the ITE Certificate in Food & Beverage Service, so the children were quite excited to interact with the owner …

Long Black Cafe @ Biopolis

Went to meet my extended team in Biopolis so we decided to try Long Black Cafe over lunch. Nice cafe with a lot of al fresco seats, and given the quiet surroundings, Long Black Cafe is quite a nice chillout hidden find especially if you have to think about life and work. Food and coffee were both above average, with good value lunch sets (soup, main and drink for ~$15), and I suspect the only reason they haven’t made it to those top cafe lists in Singapore is because they don’t open on weekends and close by 730pm on weekdays! We also had ala carte mains and sides to share: Overall, I believe this is a good value alternative to Star VIsta and food court in the area! — Long Black Cafe @ Biopolis Address: 20 Biopolis Way, Centros Block, Singapore, Singapore 138668 Tel: 64789945 Operating Hours: Mon – Fri: 8:00 am – 7:30 pm

Weight Loss – Update #1

After 40 days since my first step to healthy living and sustainable weight loss, I have had a few private queries on my progress. Since I promised to be publicly accountable, I have been to 9 Personal Training sessions, and lost about 3kg. It is still a longgggggggggg way to go from my fitness goals that I set over the next 2 years, but I feel great to be off to a good start in first 40 days despite having to do work travels in between. The small new habits I am have tried to form in last 40 days: 1) Exercising 5x/week – taking total of only 4 hours a week 2x Personal Training, more of resistance trainings (1 hour each) – new 2x Cardio (30 mins each) – already doing last 2 years 1x Pilates class (1 hour each)  – already doing last 2 years How I made time for the extra 2 hours of Personal Training was cutting down on social media and TV time. I sometimes catch up on my Social Media …

EatPrayFlying pledged to Singapore Memory Project

The National Library Board (NLB) wrote to me to pledge EatPrayFlying to the Singapore Memory Project (SMP). The SMP is a national initiative started to collect, preserve and provide access to stories, moments and memories related to Singapore. I think it is quite cool to help  build a ground-up understanding of Singapore through all our dining experiences, so I have pledged EPF! If you also have some perspectives and memories to pledge, simply pledge yours here: http://singaporememory.simulation.com.sg/Public/Pledge. 🙂

(Behind the Scenes) Empower Me Series for Women – Gala Premiere @ Tangs, Orchard

Even though I don’t work on the SK-II business, I was privileged to be able to attend the SK-II Corporate Social Responsibility Event (CSR) at Tangs Seviin yesterday as a #PGemp. I need to apologize for the lousy paparazzi-like photos because I self-invited myself and rushed down last minute so I was shooting with my phone camera. As part of SK-II’s annual CSR programme, EMPOWER ME has collaborated with Social Entrepreneur, former Miss Universe and host of WomenTalkTV.Asia – Eunice Olsen and UN Women Singapore. I am so excited to finally meet this beauty in person. Plus, she is so friendly and humble, with a great heart for the community and women in need! Inspired by the vision of women-to-women empowerment, SK-II and Eunice Olsen have co-created the first-ever EMPOWER ME Series named, Champions of Empowerment, featuring 3 ordinary women – Cassandra Chiu, Rachel Chung and Emily Teng – who have achieved extraordinary achievements. All these 3 women had short videos about their journey that was played at SK-II’s first-ever film festival gala premiere held …

Confessing My Struggle – Weight Loss

Today, I started on a serious fitness journey that I have been thinking about for the last 2 years – starting my very first session with a personal trainer. Decided to get myself an early birthday present by investing in my health 🙂 My weight has been something I struggled with all my life. I was born a big baby, became overweight by primary school, was in TAF club, always one of those struggling to finish 2.4km in school, hated the NAFA test, got called “thunder thighs” by other girls in secondary school, crash dieted, tried many different weight loss methods but nothing has worked sustainably. I get THE stares from petite clothes salesgirls when I cannot fit Singapore XL sizes. I would eat lesser than my friends but they would lose weight while I would gain weight. It took me many years with God’s help through lots of prayers to overcome the hurt that some of my family and peers have intentionally/unintentionally said about my weight, or me being fat, or calling me names, …

Dreams Come True Series Part 1 – Great Entrepreneurs Talk about their Startup Daze

As mentioned in my purpose, one of the vision of this blog is to help encourage all of us, who are struggling in our own ways in life, by sharing stories of other ordinary folks who have overcome certain fears and barriers to achieve their life goals. So today, I bring the story of Mr KC Tan, Co-founder of Fontcraft Printing, who came from very humble beginnings. Fontcraft Printing (S) Pte Ltd is an established printing company with state of the art printing equipment, providing many international customers quality-assured printing solutions and services. Fontcraft was established in 1997 and has since grown from a 1,000 square feet office to a 10,000 square feet office, and their constant strive for excellence and competitiveness has exposed them to clients across the globe in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, USA and of course, Singapore! Ok, enough corporate description talk. Here goes the interview: KC, can you tell us why you decided to focus on printing? Since this is very unique industry choice.  Initially, I went into printing because that …
