All the good Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurants in Singapore!

When my mum recovered from Stage 4 Colon Cancer but still needed to be extra careful with her food, my top 5 picks of the restaurant I bring her to criteria are based on:
1) Organic
2) Vegan
3) Raw Food options
4) Taste 🙂
Enjoy!

1) Real Food

One of the original pioneers of real, organic, no MSG, vegan food in Singapore, Real Food is doing well with 3 outlets in Novena, Orchard Central (previously Killiney) and Central.

2) Sunny Choice

Sunny Choice is an inconspicuous cafe along Rail Mall that I had walked past umpteen times without even glancing at it once, but now has became a frequented cafe. They try to use as much organic produce as possible, and also stock fresh organic produce like fruits, vegetables and chia seeds. They also serve cold-pressed juice if you want a drink full of enzymes before your mains.

My favourites – Xin Zhou Bee Hoon, Nasi Lemak, Po Piah.

Organic, vegan Xin Zhou Bee Hoon!

3) Afterglow

Afterglow – Probably the one and only organic cafe focused on RAW food. Food is exquisitely made with intricate flavours. Good as a treat but the prices are too steep for everyday dining. We pay for effort as it does take a lot of effort to take raw food, let alone yummy raw food.

My favourites – Deconstructed Sushi Bowl, Raw Lasagna and Pink Soy Latte

Address: 24 Keong Saik Rd, Singapore 089131
Phone: 6224 8921

Pink Soy Latte made from beet root, ginger and soy milk. So pretty!

4) Create Healthy Lifestyle Cafe

Create Healthy Lifestyle Cafe is a very unassuming super crowded organic cafe at Level 2 of Fortune Centre, right next to the escalator. If you can bear with crowds and sharing your tables with others, this is a very affordable organic cafe, with raw sushi for only $4! The cooked dishes like Ipoh Horfun are also pretty yumz!

5) Kampung Senang

Kampung Senang is an eco-conscious charity which helps a lot of cancer patients. They have an organic kitchen attached to their Holistic Lifestyle Centre, which promotes a healthy lifestyle to members, schools, corporations and the general public by conducting seminars, workshops, educational talks pertaining to holistic health and detoxification. I am glad my mum can eat their raw sushi rolls while I indulge in organic brown rice sets.

Relatively newly opened on Sep 20, 2015, this restaurant has a simple menu, but each dish has strong home-cooked flavours to boast. Spacious cafe!

Beyond Veggies

Beyond Veggies is a chain by the Secret Recipe Group. It is quite a popular chain in Malaysia and has finally opened its first outlet in Singapore in April 2014. Beyond Veggies is not raw or vegan. In fact, I am so sad that none of their amazing looking cakes are vegan! But the food is prepared with no colouring or preservatives, and no MSG. So is definitely healthier than the average restaurant.

Boneless Kitchen

The Boneless Kitchen serves a fusion of vegetarian food, mainly Korean – first Korean inspired Vegetarian food with some Italian inspired food. The food serving is big and reasonably priced between $6-$8 and is comfortable with air-conditioning. Most importantly, one of the more innovative vegetarian menus I have seen as usually we don’t see Korean vegetarian stalls. Will go back!

Ci Hang Western & Chinese Vegetarian Food

Cosy cafe serving mostly organic but vegetarian food, with friendly aunty from Taiwan serving the food. I like how they have both Western and Chinese vegetarian food so there is a great variety to choose from. Also more affordable than most organic places. Definitely be back!

Ci Yan Organic Vegetarian Health Food

This serves tasty Asian dishes with very home-cooked flavours having a limited number of options with around 4-5 dishes to choose from. A very unassuming restaurant with very quick service, I am just glad for another organic option in town!

Classic Lao Di Fang Vegetarian Restaurant

As its name suggests, Class Lao Di Fang is a traditional Chinese restaurant, focusing on vegetarian tze char style cuisine and dim sum. Personally find it a bit pricey for the serving size although the yam ring was decently sized. A good vegetarian option in town where there are very limited vegetarian restaurants!

Clover 8

Clover 8 serves Thailand, Vietnamese and Italian cuisines and also hand made vegetarian dim sum by Hong Kong Chef. Overall, within Kallang Leisure Park, Clover 8 is relatively affordable. We prefer their Asian dishes to their Western dishes.

Bishan Vegetarian @ above Bishan Bus Interchange

Bishan Vegetarian offers affordable Organic Vegetarian Food above the Bishan Bus interchange. We had 2 mains and 1 pumpkin potato soup for $10.10 in total. The food doesn’t have MSG and tastes healthy with low salt and sugar. It is a pity they don’t have the salad available at the moment as the salad would be a good low, cost raw meal option.

Genesis Vegan Restaurant

Genesis dishes selection is very suited for Singaporeans and Asian, with local dishes like Nasi Lemak. Their culinary style is home cooked except that they are not organic. All their recipes is by a very nice Singaporean lady now based overseas. Won’t you consider using organic produce please? Then I would eat here so much more often!

Gokul Vegetarian Restaurant and Cafe

One of the biggest vegetarian meal variety I have ever seen on a menu – Indian, Western and Asian! Lots of food choices! No MSG, egg, onion, garlic and less oil. But please MRT/bus there if possible as parking is very hard to find nearby.

Herbivore

If I didn’t know Herbivore was vegetarian, I wouldn’t be able to tell so from the menu descriptions (with Katsudon) and the taste/texture of the food. The ‘sashimi’ looked every bit like sashimi. Personally felt the food probably had too much MSG and colourings, as I broke out in a rash that night after the meal. But it definitely serves yummy and good food,  if I happen to be missing Japanese-styled meat and fish flavours.

Honzen Cafe

Dinner is a set of 8 courses for $28, and you only get to pick the main and soups, while the other 6 courses are served at the chef’s discretion. The main dishes we tried – Vegetarian “Chicken” Rice and Hokkien Mee – were exquisite! I wish I could have ordered another bowl of Hokkien Mee on its own! The other side dish I enjoyed a lot was the Potato Roll with seaweed. Honzen is not 100% organic but I was informed by the server that the salads are organic. Will definitely be back for more.

Living Cafe & Deli

Living Cafe & Deli – The very fast ‘raw’ cafe I tried but it is not totally vegan as they still serve white meat. But there are more than enough vegan options on the menu. Still my choice outlet/cafe for raw desserts!!

Lotus Vegetarian Restaurant

The first vegetarian buffet I have been to in Singapore! It has a good spread and pretty good value for money ($24.80++) for Sunday brunch. They also serve ala carte menu but I think they are really popular for their buffet. Within 15 minutes of its opening, the restaurant was already abuzz with more than 15 tables!

Loving Hut

Loving Hut is part of an international vegan chain of 200 strong with their flagship store in Joo Chiat. Good mix of Western and Asian dishes. Amazing creativity that can make vegan food tastes like fish, meat, lard…Unbelieveable! My personal favourites – Teo Chew Noodles and Raw Marble Cheese Cake!

Miao Yi Vegetarian Restaurant

Traditional looking restaurant nestled in nostalgic coronation plaza, Miao Yi serves a big variety of Chinese local dishes. Tzechar style but vegetarian version! Love the olive fried rice!

Address: 587 Bukit Timah Rd, Singapore 269707
Tel: +65 6467 1331

Nature Cafe

Nature Cafe the offshoot of Nature Vegetarian Catering, who has been serving vegetarian cuisine for more than 10 years. The new cafe has a huge variety of Oriental and Western dishes.

The original shop located at Bukit Merah has a very clean coffee shop setting. They have a new bigger concept cafe at Trade Hub (Jurong) and 1 more opening soon at The Aperia, 12 Kallang Ave, #01-28.

Restaurant details here.

New Green Pasture Cafe

Located in Fortune Centre, which is probably the Mecca of Vegetarian Food in Singapore because of the Chinese temple nearby, New Green Pasture Cafe differentiates itself by being organic, and also by retailing a wide variety of organic produce. It also has a comfortable sitting capacity. They also service quite a number of cancer patients and survivors dine often there, on their raw sushi, salads and soups.

Pine Tree Cafe

Pine Tree Cafe is famous for its vegetarian Yong Tau Foo. There was a wide assortment of ingredients.  I tried the “Bak Chor” Meepok and enjoyed it very much too. Very good value for money, and it is also usually crowded!

Another off the beaten track, unassuming place with affordable vegetarian food. Wide variety too – local, asian, western and occasional specials.  Recommendations from one of my readers (which I agree with!): Aglio olio and baked rice!

Sufood

Sufood is a collaboration between Putien and the biggest food chain in Taiwan, serving Italian – inspired vegetarian food. It is no wonder they can open a huge flagship store at Raffles City and already have a good customer flow even though they only a few months old. Well done to their marketing efforts. The pricing is also good value – for $25++/pax, you will get 7 courses, and there are a few options for each of these courses. I just wish Sufood served organic food!

Teng Bespoke

Teng Bespoke is a really popular Japanese Vegetarian restaurant located at Sunshine Plaza. They are so popular they have 4 separate units on Level 1 of Sunshine Plaza. The food is tasty but not organic and they couldn’t answer me if they use MSG in their food. Still it’s a good occasional eat out vegetarian alternative if I am craving for Japanese food.

Tip: Arrive before 6pm on weekends if you want to order any of the sets otherwise it can take up more than 1 hour for your sets to arrive. Ala carte dishes waiting time is much shorter overall.

Zen Fut Sai Kai Vegetarian Restaurant

I felt transported back to the 1970s in Zen Fut Sai Kai! No wonder my grandmother often mentioned this restaurant when she was still alive! They serve very tasty Singaporean tze char dishes but all vegetarian.

Zi Zai Vegetarian 自在齋

One of the most hardworking (opened throughout Chinese New Year!) restaurant team I know. They have tze char dishes and also many popular local dishes for individuals like Nasi Lemak. They even have an authentic chef making crispy prata live! I like that they have organic, non-GMO soy milk! They also have another branch at Yishun.

7 Sensations

Perhaps became I had heard so much about the previous 7 Sensations, when I went to their new outlet at Jalan Besar, I was mildly disappointed. The staff was new and not confident – she wasn’t even sure if the food was organic or not. The food though, was decent but not mind-blowing. Perhaps I will give it another try when their operations are more stable. But given the limited vegetarian options available (compared to regular food), I am including it in this list.

Vegetarian Kong Bak Bao (扣肉包) - One of the best mimics I have tasted!

Vegetarian Kong Bak Bao (扣肉包) – One of the best mimics I have tasted!

79A, Circuit Road Food Centre

We were introduced to this food centre which houses many vegetarian food stores. Though they are not organic, when we ordered some vegetables from random stores, we were pleasantly to find holes in them. (Holes in veggies are a good thing – if animals will eat them, it means the veggies tend to be low in pesticides).

To try list:

    1. Chef Icon Bakery
    2. Jonathan’s @ Brighton
    3. Enzo Kitchen
    4. More stalls at Fortune Centre
    5. Yi Xin Vegetarian @ Clementi
    6. Jilin @ AMK Block 128 Ave 3
    7. Pita Pan Mediterranean
    8. 锦憶 at the coffeeshop diagonally opposite Bukit Gombak MRT in the direction towards CCK
    9. Hua Jin (华津) Bukit Gombak MRT
    10. Da Zi Ran @ Serangoon Shopping Mall
    11. 8 Treasures vegetarian restaurant in chinatown, beside the Buddha tooth relic temple! – They sell chinese style food. Downstairs, is well dressed salad bar which is a western style vegetarian cafe serving up salads, soups and cakes.
    12. Greenland @ Hougang
    13. Angel’s Bistro @ Stanley Street
    14. Joie – rooftop garden of Orchard Central on the 12th floor. (is great if there’s occasion for a fine dining)
    15. ComBi Cafe Take Vege at Katong Shopping Centre, #01-41/42/43

I am constantly trying to expand this list, so please leave a comment if you have new places I can try and add to this list for more to enjoy! Thanks 🙂
