Nepal – Kathmandu Hotel – Dwarika Hotel (Nepal Travel Review Series)

Dwarika Hotel is our favourite hotel of the entire Nepal stay. Dwarika is like a little haven. From noisy Kathmandu streets, walking through Dwarika main gates is like a downshift in gears. Suddenly, I am surrounded by historical buildings, friendly staff, birds chirping, and a spacious courtyard to chillout and relax. The sudden silence is quite pleasantly deafening after all the noise and buzz right outside. Dwarika Hotel also has many preserved wooden windows and structures, which is a defining architectural trademark of Dwarika. Because it is relatively low season to trek in Nepal, we got a free upgrade to the Dwarika Suite. (Tip: Feb is a good time to travel to Nepal as it is tail-end of winter, if you can take slightly colder weather. The food/shopping/hotels are all relatively cheaper and less crowded!) It was an amazing big room with a king sized bed, lounging bed, sofa area, bathtub and bathing area. I loved the rustic, historic feel of the very clean and spacious room. There is free yoga class at Dwarika Hotel …

Nepal – Pokhara Hotel – Templetree Resort & Spa (Nepal Travel Review Series)

Templetree Resort & Spa had a clean resort feel, reasonably comfortable and we had a nice pool view from the second floor. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was extremely crowded and popular with Chinese tourists. I think other than us, all other tourists in Templetree we met were Chinese! Simple, spacious, clean room design with comfortable bed for a good rest before our Poon Hill Trek! The service was extremely personable. They knew we had been married <1 year and gave us this surprise when we check in! So sweet! Very clean and relatively modern decor in the room. The only feedback I have for the Templetree Resort & Spa management is to improve the internet by allowing auto-save on the username and password. You have to key in a username and password EVERY TIME you log into the internet; it doesn’t autosave for some reason which makes surfing very inconvenient. Nepal – Pokhara Hotel – Waterfront Resort (Nepal Travel Review Series)

If you don’t mind a slightly further location (5 mins by taxi) from the crowds main Lakeside area in Pokhara, I highly recommend the Waterfront Resort. It is right beside the glistening Phewa lakes, where you will regularly see paragliders land. The room itself was well lit, amazingly big and clean! I must say that after a 5 days Poon Hill trek living in teahouses with mostly cold water, it was nothing short of heavenly to have a hot water bath without worrying about hot water running out. Waterfront Resort has an affliated spa 3 minutes walk away, and the 45minutes foot reflexology with soft massage on calves helped us to finally be able to climb the stairs without looking like a duck. The Resident Manager of Waterfront Resort, Mr Santosh Karki, was extremely personable, and gave us the best possible room in the resort (3rd floor, overlooking the lake). He personally spoke to us at the end of the trip to ensure we had a pleasant stay. The restaurant within Waterfront Resort, Aquabird Restaurant, …

Taiwan: Taroko National Park 太魯閣國家公園 Lodging/Hotel – Silks Place 太鲁阁晶英酒店 (Taiwan Travel Review Series)

Silks Place 太鲁阁晶英酒店 in Taroko National Park 太魯閣國家公園 was the most amazing stay experience. Taiwan: Taroko National Park 太魯閣國家公園 Lodging/Hotel – Leader Village 立德布洛灣山月村 (Taiwan Travel Review Series)

We tried 2 different hotels within Taroko National Park 太魯閣國家公園. The first night was spent at Leader Village 立德布洛灣山月村. From the stay, I learnt that there are mainly 2 types of tribes – 1 in the mountains and 1 on flat lands/sea (like Amei tribe), and Bruwan (布洛灣), meaning “echo,” used to be a tribal village of the Taroko mountain tribe aborigines. The rooms were fairly basic, reflective of its tribal village roots and did not have heating. However, thankfully, they had a heating pad on bed so we didn’t freeze in the wintry mountains. Leader Village 立德布洛灣山月村 gives a good flavour of traditional tribal village experience, with nightly cultural dance shows. Also, one wakes to an amazing mountaineous view with Taroko National Park. Tip: to eat breakfast, you have to greet the staff with “Maluku”, which means good morning in their tribal language! Taiwan: Taipei – Hope Hotel 全家歡商務旅店 and Cosmos Hotel 天成大飯店 (Taiwan Travel Review Series)

As we had 2 legs of our tour in Taipei, we spent 2 nights in Hope Hotel (全家歡商務旅店) and 1 night in Cosmos Hotel. Hope Hotel (全家歡商務旅店 ) was very affordable at around NTD$1500 (SGD$60) per night. It looks sleazy but it isn’t. It is a very simple no frills room with basic bedding, 1 pillow each, clean toilets and heating. But for city visits, where we usually spend very little time in the hotel rooms but outside exploring the city, I think Hope Hotel meets our needs and is very centrally located at exit Z6 from the Taipei Main Station.   Hope Hotel (全家歡商務旅店) Address: 台北市中正區忠孝西路一段72號4樓 Phone 預約電話: 02-23814755 Site: http://www.hopehotel.com.tw/ — Cosmos Hotel (天成大飯店) was relatively expensive but that is because we booked it at very last minute on Dec 30 for Dec 31 stay, when we did a slight tweak to the itinerary. Like Hope Hotel, it is extremely convenient from Taipei Main Station (Exit M3), but it has a lot of nice facilities that Hope Hotel lacks – entry only by security card at lift for added security, …

Sofitel Luxury Hotels @ Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit

I have had the privilege of coming to Sofitel Luxury Hotels @ Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit a few times for work so I have decided to feature it. One big advantage that this Sofitel has is the central location – on Sukhumvit main road between Soi 13 and Soi 15. I enjoy its proximity to the BTS, rooms with comfy beds and spacious washrooms. They have also increased their lunch selection in VOILÀ!, their inhouse 2nd floor restaurant, to include pizzas and a very nice cheese and meat selection (see below). *All pictures proudly shot on my camera phone! Not N’s pro quality 🙂 Pictures snapped during quick working lunch:
