espressolab @ China Square

I have been looking out for cafes that serve both good vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes so we can have a good meal with our friends who do not want to eat vegetarian dishes. So I am glad to find espressolab at China Square with good selection of vegetarian dishes. In fact, Ms Alicia Teoh, owner of espressolab at China Square, was a vegetarian for a few years before! Espressolab is conveniently located in the CBD with many seats, so this is an excellent choice for lunch. The cafe is also brightly lit so it is a good place to camp at if you need to do work or have work meetings. Alicia is extremely particular about the quality of her decor and even imported all the rubberwood tables from Penang to ensure quality of the furniture is not compromised for the customers. Generally, I find that when owners are very detailed about comforts for the customers, the food and service tends to be good and espressolab did not disappoint indeed! Fried Beancurd Balls with Kailan @ Zen Fut Sai Kai

Zen Fut Sai Kai Vegetarian Restaurant @ Kitchener Road

I heard of Zen Fut Sai Kai from my grandmother for decades. Now that we have turned vegan and have lesser food options, we decided to give it a shot. The food doesn’t disappoint indeed, tastes like healthier version of local tze char. Was introduced this signature dish – Fried Beancurd Balls with Kailan. They have many dishes that are full of vegetables so I personally opt for those rather than mock meats. The flavours are also very local and tasty.  No wonder they have been around for decades! Also affordable at $20+ for 3 dishes. Will be back to try other dishes. — Address: 147 Kitchener Road, Singapore 208524 Tel: +65 62912350 Operating Hours: Tue-Sun: 10am – 930pm (Closed on Mon)

Spaghetti Soya Bolognaise @ Cafe Salivation

Café Salivation @ Little India

Café Salivation is the first Western Vegetarian Café that opened in Little India since 2008. They use no MSG in their cooking which is why I was keen to try. We started off with a strawberry shake that was supposedly vegan as it is from soy milk. But in retrospect, the server didn’t seem too confident when he answered me, so for fellow vegans, I suggest you double check before ordering! The first main we tried was Penne Arabiatta ($11), which was Penne pasta tossed with button mushrooms, red/yellow/green capsicums and garnished with red chilli flakes. The tomato base was very fresh tasting, and the chilli gives it an adequate punch without being too spicy.

Living Cafe Dessert

Top Natural/Organic Healthier Dessert Places in Singapore

Because I love desserts, I am starting a list for good raw/organic/vegan desserts separate from the restaurants and cafe list! 1) Delcie’s Desserts and Cake Organic, Egg Free, Dairy Free, Gluten Free and Diabetic Friendly I am so happy to find a healthy dessert alternative! Delcie’s mother passed away due to stomach and intestine cancer, which is why Delcie became a strong advocate to healthy eating, as she believes that “food can either be your medicine or your poison.” She pioneered the technique in baking guilt-free Organic, Egg Free, Dairy Free, Gluten Free and Diabetic Friendly cakes in Singapore, which is today’s Delcie’s Desserts and Cakes. We tried the double chocolate cake before and it was very yummy without the guilty!! Delcie’s Desserts and Cakes Address: Blk 34 Whampoa West #01-83 Singapore 330034 (map) Boon Keng MRT Exit Operating Hours: Tue – Sun (11am – 8pm), Public Holidays (11am – 3pm), Closed on Mondays. All the good Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurants in Singapore!

When my mum recovered from Stage 4 Colon Cancer but still needed to be extra careful with her food, my top 5 picks of the restaurant I bring her to criteria are based on: 1) Organic 2) Vegan 3) Raw Food options 4) Taste 🙂 Enjoy! 1) Real Food One of the original pioneers of real, organic, no MSG, vegan food in Singapore, Real Food is doing well with 3 outlets in Novena, Orchard Central (previously Killiney) and Central. 2) Sunny Choice Sunny Choice is an inconspicuous cafe along Rail Mall that I had walked past umpteen times without even glancing at it once, but now has became a frequented cafe. They try to use as much organic produce as possible, and also stock fresh organic produce like fruits, vegetables and chia seeds. They also serve cold-pressed juice if you want a drink full of enzymes before your mains. My favourites – Xin Zhou Bee Hoon, Nasi Lemak, Po Piah. 3) Afterglow Afterglow – Probably the one and only organic cafe focused on RAW food. …

Afterglow @ Keong Saik

This is my first food entry since I turned vegan and 80% raw. I was very excited to find Afterglow @ Keong Saik which has been opened since beginning of 2014. Because it also means I can prepare 1 less meal at home as it is not easy to find organic, vegan AND raw cafes and restaurants in Singapore. For those who missed my previous entries, this is why I have decided to turn vegan and 80% raw.
