Fried Olive Wild Rice @ Clover 8

Clover 8 Bistro Vegetarian & Vegan Dining by Miaoyi @ Kallang Leisure Park

I was so excited to visit Clover 8 last weekend, 7 days after this vegetarian & vegan restaurant at Kallang Leisure Park. Clover 8 serves Thailand, Vietnamese and Italian cuisines and also hand made vegetarian dim sum by Hong Kong Chef. Overall, within Kallang Leisure Park, Clover 8 is relatively affordable. We prefer their Asian dishes to their Western dishes. For starters, we tried their: Glutinous rice in Lotus Leaf ($4.80) – nice without being too oily! Deep Fried Cashew “Cheese” Ball ($5.80) – unhealthy but glad that there is a vegan cheese option! Toasted Ravioli ($5.80) – Don’t recommend this dish as the it was relatively tasteless and very oily! Olive Fried Wild Rice ($5.80) – One of their signature dishes and healthier option to white rice. Love the vegetarian crispy floss! Vietnam Hot and Sour Soup ($5) – Looks innocent but quite lethally hot! Pad Thai ($5.80) – Good value and decent taste for that price in a mall setting. Nasi Lemak ($5.80) – I enjoyed this dish. The mock fried fish and chilli made it …

Banh Mi 888 @ United Square

I was introduced to Banh Mi 888 by a Vietnamese friend from work, and Banh Mi 888 is truly authentic Vietnamese and affordable.  Some of their mains are under $6! “Banh Mi” means bread in Vietnamese but this dedicated team of Vietnamese serve more than just bread! They also serve all the Vietnamese specialties – Pho and Spring Rolls with all the authentic sauces that I have tasted in Ho Chi Minh! One of us also tried the Beef Pho ($8.50) which had very sweet, peppery soup. I am amazed at how they created the tasty flavour without MSG. They also provide a loyalty card where you get a free main with 10 chops (essentially 10% off) so I find this healthy meal has great value. Great lunch spot for those we work around the area as well! — Banh Mi 888 Address: #B1-06, United Square Shopping Mall, 101 Thomson Road Phone: 63543858 Hours: Daily, 10:00 – 21:00

Wrap & Roll @ Ion

It was a rushed Friday lunch so my friends and I decided to all travel from our respective offices and meet in centrally located Ion for quick lunch. My Vietnamese team mate recommended Wrap & Roll (Ion branch just opened in Sep13), and she recommended is because she said it is quite authentic Vietnamese flavor (of course no where near Vietnamese price). Given Vietnam are known for their rolls, we shared the Minced Pork & Mushrooms in Steamed Rice Paper Rolls which was quite yummy. It is textured a lot like chee cheong fun. I noticed most of the tables ordered rolls to share as well; definitely be trying different flavoured rolls next time. For main, I had the Stir Fried ‘Pho’ Noodles. What I really liked about this dish was that it was very healthy; it was 40% vegetables, onions and carrots making the dish very crunchy. It also had lesser carbs than usual Asian meals so less food coma tendency after lunch. My friends had other mains. Miss S tried the Beef Hot Pot …
