Nylon Coffee @ Everton

I should have started this blog a long time ago when Nylon first opened and when they were still hipster. I dare say they started the Everton Trail. Now they are so crowded that they are almost mainstream! Nonetheless, one of our favourite coffees in Singapore, we love the coffee and the 2 bosses – D and JM =)

For those who may not be aware, NYLON = New York and London, because D and JM spent time in both cities and loved the coffee and culture and hence incorporated the 2 cities into their brand name. This couple is the most passionate and involved people I know in the coffee business. They travel to faraway remote places to visit farms and cooperatives to actually see the beans they are buying. They try to understand from their peers the entire journey that the coffee takes –  harvesting,  processing of coffee cherries, the transportation process of the coffees. They talk and spew all their knowledge to their customers who are interested to learn.

Just to be clear, Nylon isn’t a cafe. Because D and JM are very passionate about the quality of their coffee (you can read about their coffee bean source sourcing trips from their blog), they dedicated half of the already small shop space to roasting, and so there are only 4 chairs in the shop. So come to stand around and chill out, or bring your own takeaway cup for a discount 🙂

They have a simple selection of coffee – Black, White, Iced, Extra Shot and Cold Brews. We usually have the White 3oz ($3.80) – like a Flat White or White 5 oz ($3.80) – like a Latte. I would say the most distinctive element of Nylon Coffee is the lingering flavour in your mouth, and that the coffee quality is consistent across perhaps the 10 or more times we have been back.

We love Nylon Coffee so much that we actually used Nylon for our church wedding reception. They were very sweet to suggest 2 separate booths since we had 500 guests, and they sourced for additional baristas so we could serve more of our guests. We are so glad for their suggestions because there was a long queueeeeeeeeee for their coffee even with 2 lines. People I know who wouldn’t usually queue for anything actually queued for seconds after trying the first coffee. They also hand chopped all the cups for us with these pigs chop… so sweet!

Obviously, I am more biased after they were such a hit on our wedding, but seriously, MUST TRY 🙂 They have started selling their beans to atas restaurants like Oxwell too, testimony to the quality of their beans!
