Le Chasseur 食乐轩 @ Eunos – Tzechar Review

Food Quality: 8/10
Value for Money: 8.5/10 (~$20/pax)
Service: 7.5/10

I must admit, when I first read the food review on Ladyironchef, it was Le Chasseur‘s name that got me! I thought it was some French food and wondered why it was under her Tzechar list. After a while, I realized, perhaps the way to pronounce it accurately in the local way is “Le Char Siew”. So it got N and I curious, so we actually went to New Bridge road to look for it! It turned out they moved and we ended up trying Songfa Bak Kut Teh. Yea, so do note they have moved to Eunos and I managed to get my parents to try it with us in the end!

Spacious, bright, clean environment at Eunos, with classical music in background
It will look like you are approaching a food centre in the middle of the industrial area. Don’t worry – that is the right spot, but Le Chasseur managed to renovate the place so it looks spacious and clean.

There is a wideeeee selection so it was hard to choose. We started with the Claypot Chicken Rice (8/10). Forgot to take a shot of it before it was stirred! I loved how tender the chicken was, because Claypot Chicken is usually dry. The mushrooms were also still juicy despite all the claypot heat, and fragrant rice!

Assam fish (8.5/10). This was my favourite dish for the night! Fresh fish, thick assam sauce that was both spicy and sour enough, accompanied with lots of pineapple, tomatoes and ladys’ finger. The fish was so fresh, a whole slab slips off neatly, off the bones, whenever you cut it.

Pork Knuckle (7.5/10)
I think this will be the controversial review as I think many people would probably find this their favourite. It was nice to be frank, and great value because the pork knuckle was HUGE. But I personally felt the meat was a tad dry; prefer a wetter texture beneath the crispy skin and layers of fat. Yes, but it is fatty, and definitely still yummy overall.

Otah Omelette (7/10). First time trying otah omelette in my life. It tasted more of the otah than egg and I felt it was a tad too burnt. But still, recommended to try once because never seen this dish at any other tzechar.

Stir Fried Kailan (8/10)
Well done – simple stir fried crunchy vegetables, sweet without being over-bearing. And not overly oily too.

Would head back for fish, vegetables and probably try their other signature dishes. Great value at ~$20/pax!
