What would happen to your body if you ate more than 20 apples a day?

We all know the phrase “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”, and we also know from research that 1 apple a day is definitely not enough nutrients for our body to achieve that. But what if there is a way to eat 20 apples EFFICIENTLY every day? Imagine all that antioxidants helping our body daily! For those who are reading on free radicals and antioxidants for the first time, I recommend reading up on the scientific rationale for antioxidants to fight off free radical damage here, as well as why antioxidants are important for you here.  Those of you who frequent Eatprayflying will know we only write about products we have tried personally, especially when it comes to supplements. Because we are very particular about what we consume, trying to take in fewer chemicals to our system at all times. As such, I was really excited to chance upon an all NATURAL Phenolic Antioxidant supplement made from ONLY APPLES, which are ‘Australian Made and Grown’, invented by University Of Newcastle (UON) scientist Dr Vincent …

3 Risks to Consider When Following the Ketogenic Diet

It seems that every year, there are ten new weight loss programs or diets to try. They can vary greatly in the methods used actually to get the results you want. Some take longer; some have stricter dietary requirements, etc. One such diet plan is the ketogenic, or “keto” diet. It’s become popular in the last couple of years primarily because it claims to use the body’s own fat burning power for weight loss, and thanks to celebrities. It’s also said to be a great meal plan regimen for anyone suffering of Type 2 Diabetes, because it helps lower blood sugar levels. Other benefits include anti-aging properties, improving brain functions and bowel movement. Many supporters of this lifestyle claim to have more energy that lasts longer. However, many experts warn of the possible risks of the keto diet, and we’ll look at some here. 1.     Losing Hydration and Muscle Mass The reason that the keto diet can work so well and so quickly is that a lot of the weight being lost is in the …

The Truth about Green Juices & Smoothies

Are you always opting for a green juice or smoothie to accompany or replace your meal instead of ingesting the vegetables itself? If you are a wellness champion doing this regularly, you must read on to ensure that you are drinking the right greens for your long term health! Drinking green juices and smoothies is becoming an uptrend among health aficionados, who believe that drinking them every day or a few times each week is healthy and helps in alkalising the body. This is also especially so with numerous celebrities such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Blake Lively who swear by this special diet that makes them feel energised, enjoy glowing skin and shed pounds effortlessly. “Kale, celery, apple, cucumber and a squeeze of lemon. I make my own juice every day at home. It really makes a difference. I can feel my body – everything’s going to way it should and I then I don’t feel guilty if I don’t get to eat my five a day of vegetables.”[1]             …

Eczema is a common skin condition that is marked by itchy and inflamed patches of skin. The most common type of eczema is known as atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema. [1] Psoriasis manifest similar symptoms as eczema but it is often more severe, characterized by patches of abnormal skin, which look red and scaly. They may vary in severity from small and localized to complete body coverage.   Symptoms of eczema and psoriasis can range from mild – such as having dry, sensitive skin; to severe – red and inflamed skin with very bad itching, flaky skin, discolouration on patches of skin to blisters with blood oozing out of it due to persistent scratching. I suffered from bad childhood eczema and the scars on my leg still give me shudders, recalling the deep itch within that even scratching cannot sooth. Top 23 Vegetarian Restaurants in Singapore (you won’t realize there is no meat!)

Because of my mum’s cancer journey, I have learnt to become very picky about her food if she wanted to eat out. It is pretty hard to find fully organic restaurants in Singapore, but here are some of our top picks that try to be as clean and healthy as possible while retaining the yummy taste! 1) Afterglow Afterglow – Probably the one and only organic cafe focused on RAW food. Food is exquisitely made with intricate flavours. Good as a treat but the prices are too steep for everyday dining. We pay for effort as it does take a lot of effort to take raw food, let alone yummy raw food. My favourites – Deconstructed Sushi Bowl, Raw Lasagna and Pink Soy Latte Address: 24 Keong Saik Rd, Singapore 089131 Phone: 6224 8921 2) Real Food One of the original pioneers of real, organic, no MSG, vegan food in Singapore, Real Food is doing well with 3 outlets in Novena, Orchard Central (previously Killiney), South Beach and Central. They also 2 outlets in Malaysia! 3) Elemen One of …

Detox Retreat @ The LifeCo Phuket

It has been almost 2 years since my last proper juice fast so N and I decided to head to Phuket to do a 3 day detox! The LifeCo Phuket is located around a lake, and is the newest kid on the block in Phuket to offer most natural solutions to fight against ageing and diseases. I decided to try out the LifeCo Phuket because I agree with their 360 degrees holistic approach together with healthy nutrition, anti-ageing and well-being therapies, prevention treatments for chronic diseases and cancer as well as pampering and beauty treatments alongside with spiritual therapies, all in the same complex. I love that they also have doctors and nurses – look forward to them giving the most updated and holistic advice for our health. The LifeCo may be new in Phuket, but their first outlet in Turkey has been opened for more than 10 years. I was quite excited to know that celebrities fly themselves to The LifeCo in Turkey just to detox! We were warmly welcomed at the airport on …

Adam Taste @ Thomson V Two

After a great tipoff from the Vegetarian Society folks, we managed to find Adam Taste at Thomson V Two and it was a great find! Newly opened on 20th Sep too! It is a very spacious, comfortable cafe.. I guess it is a tradeoff – you can have a much bigger area in a place with relatively low footfall. Still relatively uncrowded since it is only been opened for 2 weeks now. The servers all seem to be kids of the couple who owned the place; they all seem a little stressed out by the kitchen’s operations but helpful nonetheless! The menu is also relatively limited at the moment – only hotpot, wanton noodles, nasi lemak, spaghetti, baked rice with drinks and fresh juices (not cold-pressed in case you are wondering). The food is pretty good quality though. We shared the Hot Pot and Nasi Lemak.  The Hot Pot‘s Tom Yum paste tasted pretty authentic. Serving size was pretty decent too for $12.90. I tried the vegetarian Nasi Lemak. I enjoyed the curry a lot, though …

elemen @ Thomson Plaza

element @ Thomson Plaza is definitely one restaurant we regret not bringing our pro camera!! The ambience and food was so awesome we also focused so much on eating we have a few pictures only. But definitely going back for this #musttry. Love what they stand for – vegetarian, wholesome and minimum processing. We learn that elemen is backed by the Koufu chain; explains why they have the scale/marketing capability to attract a fairly good crowd on a weekday night for a vegetarian restaurant. They are currently having an opening special until 12th Oct 2015; good value $18.80 for a 5 course yummy healthy meal! The 5 courses include 1 appetiser, 1 soup or salad, 1 main, 1 dessert and 1 beverage. The elemen appetizer is standard. From left to right, it is cucumber roll, seaweed roll in sesame sauce and tomato plum. We were introduced the starters and asked to eat from right to left because it would go from light to heavy, sweet to sour. I was quite impressed.. Usually you only get …

Lean Bento @ Arcade

It is one thing to see your friend lose 20 kg, and it is yet another to see her open a new Bento Bar – Lean Bento – concept to help others achieve what she has 🙂 First off, I love Lean Bento’s clean and simple Japanese-inspired design which stands out among the shops in the arcade. It is a great use of space to be able to accommodate the CBD lunch crowd! While still maintaining the 500 calories per meal philosophy, using responsibly sourced, pesticide-free and clean ingredients, owners Charles Ng and Dionis Chiua have, after many months of research and experimentation, developed a variety of new tastes, textures and flavors. Being a vegan, I was so glad to hear that Lean Bento serves the Protein Garden ($12.90) – an ultra-low-calorie bento featuring shitake and shimeji mushrooms, sweet baby corn, edamame and chickpea salad, capsicum, wakame salad, cherry tomatoes, multigrain nigiri and home-made shoyu zero-carb shirataki noodles. The meal didn’t fill me up like our regular meal with high carbs but it kept me full for long because of the high fibre content. My favourite …
