Fried Olive Wild Rice @ Clover 8

Clover 8 Bistro Vegetarian & Vegan Dining by Miaoyi @ Kallang Leisure Park

I was so excited to visit Clover 8 last weekend, 7 days after this vegetarian & vegan restaurant at Kallang Leisure Park. Clover 8 serves Thailand, Vietnamese and Italian cuisines and also hand made vegetarian dim sum by Hong Kong Chef. Overall, within Kallang Leisure Park, Clover 8 is relatively affordable. We prefer their Asian dishes to their Western dishes. For starters, we tried their: Glutinous rice in Lotus Leaf ($4.80) – nice without being too oily! Deep Fried Cashew “Cheese” Ball ($5.80) – unhealthy but glad that there is a vegan cheese option! Toasted Ravioli ($5.80) – Don’t recommend this dish as the it was relatively tasteless and very oily! Olive Fried Wild Rice ($5.80) – One of their signature dishes and healthier option to white rice. Love the vegetarian crispy floss! Vietnam Hot and Sour Soup ($5) – Looks innocent but quite lethally hot! Pad Thai ($5.80) – Good value and decent taste for that price in a mall setting. Nasi Lemak ($5.80) – I enjoyed this dish. The mock fried fish and chilli made it …

Let’s Sea Beach Restaurant @ Hua Hin

We were searching for good food in Hua Hin town, and after reading Asia-city recommendation,  we decided to try out Let’ Sea Restaurant, which is part of Let’s Sea Resort. An al-fresco restaurant, Let’s Sea is a fusion cuisine restaurant including nostalgic Thai favorites, and its cuisine is inspired by memories from family dining moments and childhood memories. The first thing that struck me about Let’s Sea is the immediate view of the sea from our cushiony couch seats indoor. There are also a few seats outdoor with similar amazing views. The servers were friendly, and were helpful in recommending dishes. The overall ambience met its objective of being a very relaxing restaurant on the beach. From the snacks and nibble section, we tried the Grilled Sirloin with a Spicy “Jaew” Sauce (350 baht). Juicy, tender with a hint of Thai from the sauce, this was my very favourite dish! For the mains, we shared the Pad Thai with Tiger Prawn (320 baht). This was the best presentation of Pad Thai I have ever seen in any …

Phraya Nakhon Caves @ Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park

The Phraya Nakhon Caves were an unexpected find on this trip. We had initially planned to do absolutely nothing in Hua Hin; just rest and sleep. I was just surfing on the national park nearby and came across a very familiar picture of a temple glowing in a cave, then I remember seeing this picture in “Places to See before You Die” (on Facebook) before. It turned out where we were at Aleenta Resort and Spa is only 40 minutes drive to Laem Sala Beach, which is how to get to see this unique Kuha Karuhas Pavillon built in 1890 for the King in the Phraya Nakhon Caves. The National Park website said it was a 30 minutes walk so we decided to check it out after breakfast. Firstly, DO NOT be fooled. The entire journey back and forth took 3 hours in the end! We are not the fittest people but I am pretty sure no one can reach the caves and back in 30 minutes because it would be dangerous to be running on …

Aleenta, Phang Nga - beach

Aleenta @ Phang Nga (Phuket)

This is another post dated entry on a resort we like very much, but we only stayed for a short one day. Sister resort of Aleenta @ Huahin we stayed at recently, Aleenta @ Phang Nga (Phuket) was my first and beautiful encounter with Aleenta. In Phuket, Aleenta @ Phang Nga is definitely my top favourites alongside Sala Phuket. As we only stayed a day previously, we didn’t get to take many pictures but I believe these few are beautiful enough to paint a fair picture of Aleenta @ Phang Nga and why we would definitely love to be back! As Aleenta describes the room, “Breathe in the ocean splendor… These lofts with ocean view are expansive in height and depth with an Infinity pool extending from your private sundeck… Exciting design and individually unique…”. Truly, the modern duplex with the high ceilings give a magnificent view of both the infinity pool and the sea. We definitely hope to be back, and take better shots this time around! — Aleenta Phuket – Phang Nga Resort and …

Aleenta Resort and Spa @ Hua Hin

After a week of full day meetings in Bangkok, I extended my trip to spend the weekend in Hua Hin. I have heard so much about beautiful Hua Hin, which is known for her majestic sunrises. Having had a very good stay at Aleenta @ Phang Nga before, I decided to choose Aleenta @ Huahin. I must admit it is partly because I didn’t have much time and capacity to do much research, so I went for a familiar name (Aleenta), but Aleenta @ Hua Hin definitely lived up to expectations! Firstly, as members of SLH (you can also sign up for free), Aleenta @ Hua Hin offered us a free upgrade from the main wing to the more expensive Frangipani wing. Both wings are 600m apart and you can travel back and forth by: 1) Walking on the Pak Nam Pran Beach beach, 2) Walking on the road, 3) Riding Aleenta’s tuktuk 4) Cycling with Aleenta’s bicycles. Aleenta started as a family beach villa that was upgraded and now boasts 23 unique suites. The …

Sala Phuket

I went to Sala Phuket a while ago, but Sala Phuket remains one of my favourite boutique resorts in the region so I decided to do a post-dated feature. I have also stayed in Marriott and Twin Palms in Phuket but looking back, the memories of Sala Phuket still beats the rest for me. Not my best set of photos either (wasn’t thinking of having a blog previously) but I will let the pictures do the talking! In the Garden Pool Villa, the bedroom overlooked an outdoor veranda, gardens and a private swimming pool, which I felt was really private as it was a walled up garden, and the people living on top did not have windows to look down. Sala Phuket also has an award winning Beach Restaurant. My food shots were really bad so I won’t share them as they won’t do justice to the food, but you will definitely get to try if you stayed in Sala as they offer free breakfast. I loved how the poolview at breakfast immediately relaxes the mind and …

You Yen Seafood Restaurant

This was another recommendation by BK Asiacity, and we had You Yen @ Hua Hin for lunch before driving back to Bangkok to catch our flight home. You Yen was much less premium priced than Let’s Sea, even though it offers the same brilliant sea view. You Yen is a tiffany-blue colonial mansion, with its seating area expanded into the massive backyard. You Yen is a popular restaurant serving Thai cuisine, with many tables filled when we reached at an offpeak timing of 2pm. My favorite dish was the Deep-fried Seabass with Spicy Lemongrass Salad (470 baht). The fresh fish was fried till very crispy, and went very well with the spicy lemon sauce. Highly recommended.

Sofitel Luxury Hotels @ Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit

I have had the privilege of coming to Sofitel Luxury Hotels @ Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit a few times for work so I have decided to feature it. One big advantage that this Sofitel has is the central location – on Sukhumvit main road between Soi 13 and Soi 15. I enjoy its proximity to the BTS, rooms with comfy beds and spacious washrooms. They have also increased their lunch selection in VOILÀ!, their inhouse 2nd floor restaurant, to include pizzas and a very nice cheese and meat selection (see below). *All pictures proudly shot on my camera phone! Not N’s pro quality 🙂 Pictures snapped during quick working lunch:

Sala Khaoyai (II)

Have already said a lot in my first instalment on Sala Khaoyai, this instalment will be about the Deluxe Balcony Room which we stayed for Night 2 and 3, as well as the fantastic food at Sala Khaoyai Restaurant. The deluxe balcony room is much more modern than the villa. I love the black interior and sunk-in bathtub. This would be a nice design for a bachelor(ette) pad; just put in a PC for gaming and it would be a perfect pad already. Sala has a good restaurant. They serve good porridge and sandwiches at breakfast, and good Thai and western food through the day. Tip: Try the peanut butter banana smoothie as a dessert, chilling out at the sundeck….heavenly! We also tried their North Thailand cuisine special set menu. It was an interesting experience as we have never been to North of Thailand and there are subtle differences versus the usual Thai food we are used to. For example, they serve papaya salad with crabs, and generally, all the dishes are much more spicy than average …

Khaoyai National Park

Khaoyai National Park is the third largest in Thailand, covering an area of 2,168 square kilometers. On July 14, 2005, Khaoyai National Park, together with the Dong Phaya Yen mountains further north was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.   This national park is not as well maintained as the ones in the US or Australia, and the driving signages are not very clear, but it has a unique rustic feel. We drove in to visit 2 waterfalls – Haew Narok and Haew Suwat. Tip: If you are googling for locations of these waterfalls to drive to, type “Heo”, “Haew”, “Haeo”. Many different platforms spell it differently. Haew Narok Waterfall (น้ำตกเหวนรก) is the largest and highest waterfall in the park. While the signboars says this is only 1 kilometre walk from the main road to the viewpoint, my endomondo said I burnt 580kcal because it is a steep flight of stairs in the last 300metres, which also means quite a climb when you are coming back up! But worth the exercise, the waterfall has considerable strength. Haew Suwat Waterfall (น้ำตกเหวสุวัต) is a famous waterfall (I believe …
