3 Days Juice Fast with Queen’s Greens

Since it has been a while since my last 18 days vegetables juice fast, we decided to embark on a 3 days juice fast post CNY for a detox! There are so many cold-press juicing companies in town now but we decided to try Queen’s Greens given their affordable prices and because Queen’s Greens support local sustainable farmers; the pulp from the juicing is returned to soil to fallow, allowing for lower carbon footprint. Kelly, the founder of Queen’s Greens, also allows for high degree of customization (nut milk or without, fully organic or half organic, types of juices etc). She also differentiates her juices by working closely with clinic/nutritionist to provide juice for people with conditions to meet nutritional needs or help in healing of body. Kelly, founder of Queen’s Greens, explains her motivation behind starting this juicing business: “A friend once confided that in his late teenage years, he had unexplained boils that ‘attack’ his entire face which makes his handsome face then almost unbearable to look. He would lock himself up in his room and is inconsolable. The only thing …

D’Life Bistro & Cafe @ Commonwealth Crescent

D’Life Cafe & Bistro is the latest vegetarian joint to hit the market. Only opened for 2 weeks, I am glad to see such a happening and hipster looking vegetarian joint (in an extremely old school charming neighbourhood next to famous 2 Chefs tze char!) we can hang out at! D’Life Cafe & Bistro is a lacto-ova vegetarian place that does not use onions/garlic/leek/chives/shallots. They also have some vegan options including vegan ice cream and vegan soy/almond milk coffee but the cakes are not vegan! Even though I couldn’t find any website on this new cafe, the owner was very prompt in replying to my facebook messages for reservations. The staff was also quite flexible in rearranging the tables so 9 of us could sit together. We ordered a main each, some side dishes and 3 desserts to share! All in all, we spent $145 for 9 of us which is quite reasonable for the amount of food! Enjoyed the Asian dishes very much and will try the Western dishes the next time we are …

Blue Lagoon @ Reykjavík, Iceland

Updated Aug 7, 2016 – We managed to make it back in summer 2016 after our 2014 visit and I must say Blue Lagoon is more photogenic when there is more sunlight 🙂 Updated with our summer pics! Enjoy! — Blue Lagoon was the only man-made place in Iceland I really wanted to visit! Named one of National Geographic’s “25 Wonders of the World,” Blue Lagoon is famous for its geothermal BLUE seawater bath, which is known for its healing effect and active ingredients including minerals, silica and algae. The geothermal seawater originates 2,000 meters beneath the earth’s surface under Iceland. As the water travels through porous lava (Iceland is known for its volcanic activity), a blend of sea and fresh water undergoes mineral exchange and then near the surface, concentration occurs, due to vaporization, evaporation and finally, sedimentation. The geothermal seawater is led directly from the original source to the lagoons at the Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa, and all the minerals gives it the distinct light BLUE colour.  The lagoon holds six million liters of geothermal …

Healthy (and convenient) snack options in Singapore!

Ever since I turned 100% vegan and as raw as I be, one consistent challenge at 9pm that N and I face is – “We are so hungry and we have run out of juice/blends. What do we eat?” This puts us face to face with temptation.. Do we cook something convenient like instant noodles or stock up on convenient non-GMO chips so we can satisfying our roaring tummies before we sleep at night? (Btw I did succumb to some branded fried non-GMO chips which made my tonsils feel really uncomfortable the next day so I stopped. *sigh* Listen to the body, right?) Somehow when you have had a long day, eating healthy fruits at night is the last thing on my mind. So that started my hunt on healthy plant-based snacks that we do not need to make on our own! Yessss.. lazy busy city people 😛 Of course, my most preferred snack is still our own dehydrated kale chips – recipe here. However, we have now discovered healthy options that are ready made! …

The one villa in Phuket you have to experience…

Villa Noi is by far our best beach holiday and retreat experience. We hunt around a lot for deals on luxury boutique villas and yet Villa Noi has been able to surpass all our experience so far! Villa Noi is situated on Natai Beach, Phang Nha, just north of Phuket, just 25 minutes from the Phuket International Airport. For those who are familiar with Aleenta Phang Nga, Villa Noi is right next to it. Villa is a private family villa and was designed by Duangri Bunnag, and constructed in 2010. Villa Noi is an award-winning Thai modern home that has been featured in various high-society publications such as The Modern Thai House / Innovative Design in Tropical Asia and Houses by Thai Architects. I was stunned when I was reading in the pavilion and realized Villa Noi is the villa on the cover page of Houses by Thai Architects. Never thought I would ever have a chance to live in one of these homes! One of the reasons why Villa Noi is our top villa …

Fried Olive Wild Rice @ Clover 8

Clover 8 Bistro Vegetarian & Vegan Dining by Miaoyi @ Kallang Leisure Park

I was so excited to visit Clover 8 last weekend, 7 days after this vegetarian & vegan restaurant at Kallang Leisure Park. Clover 8 serves Thailand, Vietnamese and Italian cuisines and also hand made vegetarian dim sum by Hong Kong Chef. Overall, within Kallang Leisure Park, Clover 8 is relatively affordable. We prefer their Asian dishes to their Western dishes. For starters, we tried their: Glutinous rice in Lotus Leaf ($4.80) – nice without being too oily! Deep Fried Cashew “Cheese” Ball ($5.80) – unhealthy but glad that there is a vegan cheese option! Toasted Ravioli ($5.80) – Don’t recommend this dish as the it was relatively tasteless and very oily! Olive Fried Wild Rice ($5.80) – One of their signature dishes and healthier option to white rice. Love the vegetarian crispy floss! Vietnam Hot and Sour Soup ($5) – Looks innocent but quite lethally hot! Pad Thai ($5.80) – Good value and decent taste for that price in a mall setting. Nasi Lemak ($5.80) – I enjoyed this dish. The mock fried fish and chilli made it …

Real Food

Real Food is arguably the leader of organic, vegetarian food in Singapore. They started in a humble space in Central, Clark Quay a couple of years ago even before juicing became a fad, and have expanded to 4 outlets in Singapore and Malaysia. Real Food café is free from processed ingredients (food grade or otherwise), artificial preservatives and Trans-fat. Real Food is a restaurant we frequent, and Eatprayflying is privileged to able to speak to Jeeyang, one of the founders who started Real Food to understand more about Real Food’s vision and journey. One reason why I support Real Food is because they support ethical farming and ethical food preparation which really stands out in the food industry. Real Food sources mainly from organic farmers and even if the farmers do not have enough scale to pay for organic certification, the partners personally visit the farms to ensure the food is REALly (pun intended :P) free from pesticides and toxic farming ingredients. They also take pains to ensure their food is as healthy as possible – the oils …
